Sneezing Snub-Nosed Monkey among the weirdest

Found this 10 weirdest newly discovered animals link on the NPR site. It seems like the buggers get weirder and weirder as we discover them. The rarest are probably just perceived at first as strange and unusual.

Here's a link to the National Geographic article.

But, if you want to skip to the good stuff, here's the monkey. 'Cause monkeys are all that matter…

He Looks Like a Monkey, and he Smells Like One, Too!

Happy Birthday King Kong! As Hugh Hart reports on Wired magazine's blog (link below), yesterday, April 7, was the 77th Anniversary of the original King Kong movie's release. Banana cupcakes for everyone!

Hands up! I have a banana!

Here's a funny story spotted on Reuters' "Oddly Enough" blog about a monkey cop in Thailand. Kop khun krap.

Monkey Madness

Monkey Madness in vending machines.

Spike sent me more monkeys. We'll have to invite him to be an author of Millions of Monkeys. Now we know the brand name of the monkey Tim found. I have a couple of these sitting on top of my television, but I keep forgetting to take pictures of them. This is a brilliant collector idea, but I never see them :(

CHIMPCAM!!!

My friend, Spike sent this to me. Monkey's makin' movies! It's Chimpcam, a documentary made by monkeys for monkeys! I still haven't found it on the boob tube, but my DVR will be set.

Spike found it on Gizmodo.

The Monkey Bar - NYC

I was lucky enough to attend a cocktail party at the Monkey Bar, which is Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter's latest restaurant venture. The atmosphere in the bar and dining room is overall very soothing and exquisite. Some say the mood reminds them of being on a luxurious ocean liner. Perhaps this effect was enhanced by the fact that the bar staff wore very ship-worthy uniforms as they poured our libations. In addition to the dark wood and warm lighting, there are delightful monkey-themed murals and fixtures all around the bar room, which I was able to snap a few photos of to share with you! On display in the dining room is a large mural featuring various stars from old Hollywood and modern literature (Fred Astaire, Dorothy Parker, Zelda & F. Scott Fitzgerald, etc.) painted by Ed Sorel. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the name of the artist who painted the monkey murals, but I am very curious to know. Until a later post, here are the pictures:

Smart as a monkey

My wife is a smart ass monkey.

My wife got this t-shirt a while back because at a quick glance she thought it said, "smart ass monkey."

Don't feed the monkeys

Do monkeys like ice cream?

My cousin sent me this image. It comes from oddlyspecific.com - a humor site which features…well, oddly specific signage. Very amusing.

Fire good, chimp smart

Curious George can conceive fire.
Why wouldn't any chimp?

I always amazes me how people are surprised when they figure out how well an animal can grasp an intangible concept let alone something tangible, albeit hot, like fire.

A Senegal chimp has demonstrated a dance to indicate fire to his fellow chimps. That this is put into words on a science website is no surprise, but that this is put into words as if it's a surprise is insulting. Chimps unite.

I guess I'd be surprised if we found an arsonist chimp.

Read the story.

Gorilla on SpongeBob

This gorilla face close up is now my phone wallpaper.

What fun!? Never saw this episode of SpongeBob SquarePants until the other day. Was pleased to see the gorilla suit. Monkeys are everywhere!

Sponge Bob as Fay Wray.
