Madagascar at the zoo

I was lucky to have my camera with me in the subway when I saw this poster for a new Bronx Zoo exhibit featuring animals from Madagascar. I believe the little guy in the lower left corner (detailed on top left) is a lemur.

Kiko Macaco. Who is he?

Here’s a sticker I got at the NY Comic Con or Licensing Show or something. Can’t remember, thus no story. It’s the mystery of my Kiko Macaco sticker.

The Kong and I

All this monkey talk, and you can guarantee a few things that will show up in this blog. Planet of the Apes, Curious George, and King Kong! Here’s a close-up of a really cool King Kong sculpted toy I got in the late 90’s. Kong is the ultimate monkey, and deserves to be listed early in Millions of Monkeys! He stands on a shelf in my studio forever trying to break free.

Dairy Fest Monkey

Went to a Dairy Fest in Meredith, NY this past weekend. Not sure how it was much of a dairy fest as much as a fest of vendors selling stuff. Where plush monkeys have a place in the world of dairy or farming, I guess I’ll never know. I found this guy nestled in with some other plush between gas powered remote controlled cars and trucker hats with race car logos.

Silhouette on the stairs

Another image of a monkey I found at the Javits Center during Licencing Show was this silhouette. Anyone who’s ever been to a convention or expo at the Javits has seen those ads they pit on the stairs. When you are on the lower level they are clear, but when you are on the stairs it’s visual gibberish. Almost like a poster sliced horizontally to fit your blinds.
Anyway there was some new property being advertised. Maybe it was a TV show in Australia. I think it was called World Girl. Looked like the premise was inspired by Dora the Explorer. I’m sure Boots will make it in here one of these days!

Lonely George

I found Curious George at the Licensing Show in NYC, and he was sitting all by himself. Still had a smile as lonely as he looked.

Nesting Monkeys

This is one of those wooden nesting characters. It’s a set of monkeys that a friend gave to me on my birthday. The great part is that they are so tight that when you open them they squeak like little monkeys. The smaller ones squeak with a deafening pitch, which I believe is the reason they have no ears.

Banana Monkey Mints

I’ll start off with this green monkey tin that had banana flavored “mints” inside. My wife, Elaine brought it home for me, and left it on my desk. I ate the whole tin within a few hours, and expected a stomach ache, but instead all I had was minty banana breath for several hours of burps.
